Engineering a Diverse Future
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) promotes public awareness of engineering and the opportunities that engineering affords in professional industry and academia. Its purpose is to stimulate and develop student interest in all engineering fields and at all levels of responsibility, purposely facilitating the advancement of black and ethnic minority professional engineers throughout all engineering disciplines.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power established its chapter of NSBE in 2020 with the idea that its own engineers, associates and supporting staff would flourish beneath the NSBE canopy. As a result, LADWP | NSBE was formed. LADWP | NSBE supports the goals and objectives of NSBE, and dedicates itself to develop intensive programs to increase Black and other ethnic minority participation in the field of engineering and engineering technology.
NSBE is one of the largest student-governed organizations based in the United States. Founded in 1975, NSBE supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology.
With more than 600 chapters and more than 24,000 active members in the U.S. and abroad, NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community."
